Hi there. Our living room wall is a high traffic region and due to this, it is susceptible to flaws. It had developed a few cracks, which were ruining the whole look. So, I called professional painters to find the solution to how to hide wall imperfections with paint. They told me that textured paint would work the best in hiding the flaws. Let me share more details about the same with you.

How to Cover Wall imperfections with paint

Apart from textured paint, matte or flat finishes work really well in absorbing light, which helps in hiding bumps and bruises. So, you can use any of the three kinds of paint options for this project. I am sharing the steps to paint the imperfections with textured paint.

Cleaning

  • Start by cleaning the wall. Use a vacuum to remove dirt and dust.

  • Then, mix dish soap in warm water and dip a clean cloth in it. Wipe the surface with the cloth.

  • Take a soft and dry cloth and wipe it to remove moisture from the wall. Let the wall dry completely.

Filling Gaps and Cracks

  • Texture paint hides minor to moderate cracks. But for major ones, you’ll have to do some work beforehand.

  • Use wall putty to fill cracks and holes. Do so with a putty knife.

  • You can also use a spackle to fill the imperfections. Smoothen it over or leave the spackle textured.

Choosing the Roller

  • You’ll have to choose the right kind of roller per your preference. You can either choose a textured roller or a smooth roller and then apply texture on your own.

  • I prefer the textured roller as it saves time and they hide imperfections well because of their roughness. The look can be a little different because of this.

  • You can then paint the wall.

This is how to hide imperfections in walls when painting. I hope it helps.
