A few days ago, I noticed my ceiling fan was running slower than usual. Since the weather is hot where I live, I just had to fix it. It is because it would feel very humid and suffocating if the fan didn’t give proper airflow to the room. So I started researching how can I increase the speed of ceiling fan. I found I can increase the fan speed by cleaning their blades with damp clothes. I have shared the detailed process below.

How to Increase Ceiling Fan Speed?

  • I started by cleaning the fan blades because dust accumulation can significantly decrease airflow.

  • After wiping them down with a damp towel, I saw an instant improvement. A clean fan runs more effectively, so this was a simple yet important step.

  • I then looked around for any loose screws and tightened any that seemed shaky. Loose screws can cause vibrations and changes in the fan's speed.

  • In addition, I checked the blade balance because an imbalanced fan might sway and slow down.

  • Next, I thought about lubrication. I applied a few drops of lubrication to my fan's oil ports to keep the motor operating smoothly. This was an important step since, over time, a lack of lubrication might cause a reduction in speed.

  • Finally, I also found out that changing the capacitor might be required if these methods didn't work. Slow fan speeds are generally the result of a malfunctioning capacitor.

So I successfully restored the speed of my ceiling fan by following these steps. But it was time consuming, so I suggest you better hire an electrician. I hope this helps you understand how to increase the speed of ceiling fan.

I recently had to deal with the problem of my ceiling fans not operating at their optimal speed. To fix it, I thus hired an electrician. He informed me that to raise the speed of my ceiling fan, I needed to replace the capacitor. I asked him at the end how can I increase the speed of ceiling fan on my own. He gave me some great advice to increase ceiling fan speed, which I've included below for your reference.

How to Increase the Speed of Ceiling Fan?

To achieve optimal cooling efficiency and boost the ceiling fan's speed, my electrician advised me of the following methods:

  • Examine the fan's settings.

The majority of ceiling fans feature various speed settings that may be changed using a wall switch or remote control. To enhance the speed and airflow, make sure the fan is set at its utmost speed.

  • Make sure the blades are clean.

He said that the fan's speed mainly decreases due to dust building up on the blades. So, to clean your ceiling fan, switch off the electricity and give the top and bottom of blades a gentle wipe down with a soft cloth or a pillowcase.

  • Change the capacitor.

He also informed me that sometimes the capacitor which is located in the fan’s hub fails which leads to a decrease in its speed. So, in such a case, replace the capacitor.

  • Adjust the pitch of ceiling fan’s blade.

A steeper pitch might also provide more air. To prevent mechanical vibration, my electrician told me that all of the blades must have their pitches adjusted in the same manner.

Like me, you may also hire an electrician from NoBroker to make sure your room stays cool and comfortable during the summer.

Why Ceiling Fan Running Slow: Its Reasons?

Hi mate. There are several ways to learn how to increase ceiling fan speed. I usually clean the blades for this purpose and it works pretty well. But there are two additional techniques which can help you. I have written them below to help you.

How to Increase Fan Speed?

You can increase the speed of your ceiling fan by doing these things.

  1. I have a fan which comes with oil ports, so I simply opened them and poured oil. However, if yours doesn’t, you can bring down the fan and remove its lighting fixture, along with the blades. Then, add the oil directly into the bearings on each side. All you have to do after this is to rotate the fan a bit and install it back. The oil helps in lubrication and thus, increases the fan's speed.

  2. Another possible way is to change the speed controllers. At times, it happens that the fan is not compatible with the speed controller. This tends to cause a barrier in front of the fan’s speed. So, changing the controller to one that’s compatible would certainly help.

  3. As I said earlier, you can also clean the fan blades to increase its speed. For this, I would advise you to first cover your bed or the area underneath the fan. Then, wear gloves and goggles. Clean the blades with a soft and dry cloth, followed by a damp cloth. The excessive dust leads to the slowing down of the fan. So, once you’ve removed the dust, the fan speed will improve.

I would like to conclude my answer on this note. I hope you have learned how to increase the speed of my ceiling fan. Have a good day.
