Hello, I am here to help you with how to install an outdoor outlet in brick wall. I did this job a few weeks ago with the help of a friend and can tell you the whole process.

How to Install a Wall Outlet?

  • Choose an appropriate location for the exterior outlet. I recommend a place where you can tap into the existing interior wiring. Also, the outlet’s position should be helpful for your outdoor stuff.

  • Then, find a decent height for mounting the outlet box to the brick. I recommend you mount at least a foot off the ground and at a place where there isn’t too much water.

  • To install the outdoor box, the best way out is to use an outdoor rated enclosure that mounts to the current surface instead of inserting it into the wall.

  • Mounting to siding can be achieved using exterior wood screws while for mounting to brick, you need stone or masonry screws.

  • In order to mount the box on brick, you have to ensure that the box anchors go into the actual brick. Do so with the aim set to electrical cable for the mortar.

  • Drill out the cable entry for the romex with a small drill bit. Before moving ahead, see that the electrical cable does fit through the mortar.

  • Drill the brick at a slow pace to avoid drilling too much. You should stop every now and then and pull the drill out to clear the hole of stone dust. Compare the drill bit depth to your anchors to ensure you hit the correct depth. Put a dab of silicon to overcome any chances seeping into the brick.

  • Cut a hole in the wall to get the power feed to the outlet.

  1. First, mark a square opening.

  2. Take a box cutter and trace the pencil marks.

  3. Cut the square and ensure to catch the square

  • Fix the cable through the existing box opening, through the wall, and push it outside. If you can’t get the cable secured in the existing old box, you might need to replace the box with a new one.

  • Shut off the correct breaker and use a non contact voltage detector to ensure that no live wires are there in the box at the time of doing the wiring. Check the local codes for all work, too.

  • Connect to the hot side of the switch wiring instead of the switched side.

This is all from my side regarding how to install an outdoor outlet in brick wall. I hope this helps.
