Although I chose the later due to budget constraints. I would say you can go for Armor lock plates as well.
Armor lock platesTake the measurements of your room to determine how much armor plate and tiles you will need.
Now get the material from the shop and arrange the plates on the floor
Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, start nailing the tiles on it.
Put the plywood layer over the existing carpet starting inside out. Glue it in and let it dry for 2-3 hours
Now create a pattern using carpet tiles and start glueing them on the plywood
Give them at least 5-6 hours to dry out and get fixed.
