When my house was being renovated, I was surprised to know that there is something called carpet tiles. There are so many new things that have come up that it’s difficult to choose what would go with your house and what won’t. I had an existing carpet and I needed to know how to install carpet tiles over carpet after my renovator suggested it. I asked him the same thing and this is what he suggested.

I was told that I can either choose to get Armor lock plates or I will have to buy a thin plywood, adhesive and carpet tiles to carry out the process. Although I chose the later due to budget constraints. I would say you can go for Armor lock plates as well.

Armor lock plates
  • Take the measurements of your room to determine how much armor plate and tiles you will need.

  • Now get the material from the shop and arrange the plates on the floor

  • Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, start nailing the tiles on it.

Plywood method
  • Put the plywood layer over the existing carpet starting inside out. Glue it in and let it dry for 2-3 hours

  • Now create a pattern using carpet tiles and start glueing them on the plywood

  • Give them at least 5-6 hours to dry out and get fixed.

This is how to install carpet tiles over carpet. I hope this helps you.
