How to install chair rail around windows?

To install rail around windows you will need:

  • Miter saw

  • Nail gun (preferable over hammer and nails)

  • Adhesive caulk

  • Caulk gun

  • Tape measure

  • A pencil

  • A level

  • Stud Finder

  • Window Glazing

  • Sandpaper

  • Paper towels

 

  1. First remove the furniture that is located near the wall.

  2. After taking 36" - 42" up from the floor, mark the place with a pencil. This will be the place where you install your molding. Now draw horizontal lines by taking measurements properly.

  3. Take measurements of the sections you want to cover between the door frame, wall, and window frame. 

  4. Take a chopping saw and start cutting the molds. 

  5. Take the stud finder and find out the studs in the wall and mark them with pencils above the horizontal line that was drawn earlier.

  6. Place the caulk along the backside of the molding and stick it to the wall. Make sure that molding is leveled up horizontally to the wall. Attach the molding to the wall stud by using a nail gun. If the nails are out then you need to set them to the molding using the nail set.

  7. Repeat the process to install chair rail molding after cleaning the remaining residue.
