I did not know anything about chimney fitting in kitchen so as soon as we shifted to our new house, I hired professionals for the task. They took around an hour and installed the chimney perfectly. I was there the whole time to verify whether everything was done correctly or not and understood the process. Let me share the entire process for your help.

How to Fix Chimney in Kitchen?

To fix the chimney in kitchen, here is what you need to do:

  • Select Location: Choose a spot above the stove, and make sure that there is enough space for appliance’s installation and maintenance.

  • Mark Installation Points: Measure and mark the spots on the wall or cabinet according to the chimney’s dimensions and recommended height.

  • Install Brackets: Secure mounting brackets or support frames to the marked points on the wall using screws and wall anchors, ensuring they are level.

  • Install the Chimney: Place the chimney onto the brackets and secure it with screws or bolts as instructed by the manufacturer.

  • Connect Ducting: Attach the exhaust duct to the chimney and extend it to the external vent, securing connections with duct tape or clamps.

  • Test the appliance: Plug in the chimney, switch it on, check for proper suction and any unusual noises and finally adjust the settings as needed.

So this is how to set chimney in kitchen. Without proper tools and knowledge, it is hard to install the appliance so I suggest you seek an expert’s aid.

It is important to know the process of chimney installation because this is a crucial step that helps in maintaining good indoor air quality by removing smoke, odours, and grease.

How Chimney is Installed in Kitchen?

  • Decide where the chimney will go, ideally above the cooking range.

  • To mark the precise locations for wall or ceiling mounting, use a measuring tape and level.

  • Make sure the mounting brackets can support the weight of the chimney by securing them to the wall or ceiling.

  • Use the brackets to mount the chimney hood, as directed by the manufacturer.

  • Install the duct pipe, attach it to the hood, and then seal the joint with sealant or duct tape to ensure an airtight seal.

  • Connect the wire as instructed if the chimney contains a fan or lights.

  • Verify that the chimney is operating properly and exhausting the air outside.

  • Make any modifications required for optimum performance.

Additional tips on installation of chimney;
  • Assure proper ventilation of the chimney ductwork. Grease and other dangerous fumes can be trapped in the kitchen if the ductwork is not properly aired.

  • Use a chimney hood that can accommodate the amount of cooking you do.

  • In order to avoid grease buildup, regularly clean the chimney hood and ductwork.

  • At least once a year, get an expert to inspect and clean the chimney.

By following these tips, you can accomplish a safe chimney installation in your kitchen.

I purchased a chimney a few months back and decided to install it myself to save some money. After reading the manual thrice and doing a lot of research, I finally figured it out. To save you all the hassle, let me tell you how to install chimney in kitchen:

Tools Needed:
  • Pliers

  • Hammer

  • Scissors

  • Pencil

  • Measuring tape

  • Spares and tools provided with the chimney pack

How to Fit Chimney in Kitchen
  1. Height for installation

Several chimney experts say that an ideal height for installing a chimney ranges between 24-inch to 30-inch. Also, the recommended height will be mentioned in the user manual provided with the chimney. Use the measuring tape to complete the height measurements process.

  1. Mark the points to fasten the chimney:

After that, mark the points for installing the chimney. After that, place the hood on the wall and use the drilling machine to make holes for the screws. After that, attach the chimney with the hood at your chosen place and fasten it.

  1. Ductless Chimney or Chimney with a duct

Next, check whether the chimney is ductless or has a duct. In case you have a chimney with a duct, please ensure its length isn’t more than 12 feet. Since longer duct pipes will contain more bends while installation, it can cause difficulty to reach the exhaust and a reduced rate of smoke suction.

  1. Make cut out for chimney’s duct

You are required to make 6 inches wide and circular opening for the duct on your kitchen’s external wall. In case you don’t have any pre-installed exhaust fitting or chimney cut out, then you have to make it accordingly. In case, you have an old exhaust fan or chimney fittings, then you can use the cut out to pass the duct through it.

  1. The Added feature of universal Spigot

Chimneys now feature an integrated universal spigot that allows you to attach the exhaust pipe at 6-, 5-, and 4-inch of diameter.

  1. Wiring

This step is very important in the installation process. I recommend you read the user manual to fix the wiring. When you’re done with the wiring, turn on the chimney and check whether it’s working properly or not.

Now you know how to use chimney in kitchen.
