I wanted to get a wall for my shower area, as the whole bathroom becomes wet while taking a shower. Hence, I started looking for bathroom wall ideas and came across the block shower wall. I loved the whole idea and took it as a DIY project. So, if you are trying to learn how to build a glass block shower wall, then I can help you with that.

How to Install Glass Block in Shower?

The process of installing glass blocks in the shower area is pretty simple. Here are a few steps you can follow to complete that.

  1. Measure the area the glass blocks need to be installed. Also, for proper installation, ensure that the surface is moisture-resistant.

  2. Next, select the glass block sizes and styles that you want.

  3. Prepare a mortar mixture and use a brick trowel to apply a bed of mortar to the surface where you want to place the glass blocks.

  4. After that, place the first row of glass blocks and keep adding blocks one after the other. Ensure to apply more mortar and spacers as you work your way up.

  5. To ensure the strength and stability of the wall, install anchors and reinforcing rods every two feet.

  6. Now, use a damp cloth to clean mortar residue from the glass block surfaces. You can also keep a cleaning bucket to clean efficiently.

  7. Now, let the mortar sit for 24 to 48 hours and use a glass block sealant to seal the block wall.

These are the steps that you can follow to install glass block in shower. I hope this helps.

I have mentioned below a detailed procedure about how to install glass block window in bathroom or showers. You will be able to install one after reading my guide properly.

  1. You need to determine the number of blocks required by measuring the opening for the glass wall. Because glass blocks cannot be cut.

  2. Arrange the blocks on a table to determine the exact size of the installation using the separators included in the block kit.

  3. Construct a frame out of 1 by 6 to surround this collection of blocks.

  4. Cut one 1 by 6 to the length of the sides and another to the length of the bottom plus 112 inches. Use screws or fasteners to put the frame together.

  5. Assemble the frame and it should be centred in the opening, with any required blockage.

  6. Before you attach the framework to the opening, ensure it's square and even.

  7. Prepare the glass-block mortar according to the package specifications.

  8. Apply the mortar along the bottom and border of the glass block, then use the spacers to press it into the corner.

  9. Continue building blocks from left to right until the first course is complete.

  10. The metal holding strips should be screwed to the side frame and bent to match between the rows of blocks. It will also help you with how to install glass block windows.

  13. Once the mortar has built up a bit, carefully wipe the block with a sponge and water before shaping the mortar with the mortar-shaping instrument.

  14. A dry towel can be used to wipe away any dust that has settled on the block.

  15. Once the mortar has been set, apply a clean layer of sealant around the block's perimeter.

  16. Fill the gap between the 1 by 6 frame and the original wall with casing moulding. Fill up the gaps in the moulding and framework with filler and paint.
