Deciding on a suitable location for your inverter is a crucial part of the installation procedure. I am aware of this since my father bought a home inverter nearly five years ago. I wanted to connect it myself, so I researched how to install inverter at home. From there, I learned to install an inverter close to the main electrical panel is the best option. Additionally, I discovered the entire process to install it, which I've included for you below.

How to Fit Inverter in Home?

One excellent method to have a dependable backup power source with an electrical loss is to install an inverter at home. If you are also looking to install it, here is the process you can follow.

  • You must choose a suitable spot for the inverter. To avoid damaging the inverter, make sure the area is well-ventilated and away from any water sources.

  • To be safe when handling electrical components, turn off the main power source.

  • Now mount the inverter firmly by following the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Using the proper wire and a circuit breaker, you can now connect the inverter to the main electrical panel.

  • Next, attach the inverter to the batteries. To increase capacity while maintaining the same voltage, you can employ a parallel configuration.

  • It’s time to test your inverter. To do that, switch on the main power source and turn on a few appliances and check whether it’s working.

This was the process I came across. However, my father hired an electrician as it was looking too complicated for us and also to ensure safety. I hope you understand how to install a inverter in home.

Where to Place Inverter in House: Inverter Setup?

Hello Aakash, I saw you wondering about the process for inverter installation at home and would like to help you with the same. I bought an Exide inverter last year and hired a professional for the job. I looked closely while the person installed the inverter. So, let me get started by sharing the installation process with you.

How to Install a Inverter in Home?

  • You first need to decide on a suitable place to install the inverter. Ideally, you should choose a place which,

  1. Doesn’t come under any direct sunlight

  2. Is free from any sort of moisture

  3. Away from explosive materials

  4. Has enough room for the inverter to be placed.

  • You then need to mount or place your inverter in the right manner. You can choose either of the following ways to keep your inverter.

  1. Mount it on a vertical or a horizontal surface.

  2. You can also choose to mount it on a non-vibrating wall in a perpendicular (90-degree angle) way.

  3. Make sure that the inverter wheels are locked while installing the battery.

  • Now, connect the inverter to your home electric supply by,

  1. Remove all the live wires of the circuit breaker from the main distribution board, which is connected to the main double pole switch of the rooms you wish to connect to the automatic supply.

  2. If any power failure occurs, only the MCBs connected to the inverter and their load will be able to give out constant electricity.

  3. Take the three wires, namely the neutral, phase and earth and connect them from the inverter to the respective wires in the mains.

  4. You then need to connect a 3-pin plug into the inverter’s output.

  • In the last step, you have to connect the battery to your inverter.

  1. Connect the inverter’s terminals with the battery’s terminals in a way that the positive connects with the positive and the negative connects with the negative.

  2. This will initiate power inside the inverter.

This is how to connect inverter in home. As you must have felt, the process is technical and can be difficult for non-professional people like us. So, please ask an electrician to do the job. I hope this helps you to know the inverter installation at home.

What Happens if Inverter Battery Water is Low?

My engineer brother has a knack of getting into every other electrical item we have at home. It sometimes irritates the s**t out of me but then it does help at times. I shifted to Bangalore recently and he was there to help me set up my life there. We decided to get an inverter how to connect was the first question that I asked. His eyes gleamed as he was about to find it out and do it. I was scared honestly. I don’t trust him really :P

Anyway, he figured it out and did the task to perfection. I am going to share what he did to answer your question about how to install inverter at home.

How to install inverter and battery at home?

Well, before he started on this adventure I was instructed specifically to check that the place of inverter installation had no water or moisture and all the clutter around was cleared.

Next he got the inverter case and mounted the inverter on it in a horizontal position. It was now time to do the big stuff. He started by disconnecting all the wires from the main board. He took neutral wire, phase wire and earth wiring and connected them to their respective mains. Next he started connecting battery terminals to inverter terminals, obviously positives to positives and negatives to negatives.

That’s all it took to set up the whole system. I was really nervous to switch on the main plug, but damn!!! It worked. My brother is not that bad I guess :P

You can get an inverter how to connect is not a difficult question to answer TBH.
