I have recently replaced my fluorescent tube lights with LED ones as they are designed to be a more reliable and energy-efficient alternative. If you find the process of replacing tube lights daunting and confusing, then worry not. I will tell you how to install LED tube light easily.

How to Fit LED Tube Light: Simple Process Removing the old tube

Disconnect the tube light you want to replace from the power supply. Once the power is disconnected, you can remove the old tube light from the fitting and keep it on a flat surface.

Checking and removing the ballast

Fluorescent fixture feature ballasts, which are generally of 2 types: magnetic or electronic. If you are unsure which type of ballast is used in a light fitting, look for a flickering in the light or listen for a slight buzzing. If you can hear or see this, then it’s likely to be a magnetic ballast. Otherwise, it’s an electronic one.

If the fitting features an electronic ballast, you have to remove it to prevent damage to the LED tube light. Disconnect the wires from the ballast unit. Form a circuit by removing the unit and connecting the loose wires. Please make sure the connections are insulated and secure.

Depending on the tube and fixture, you’ll either need to bypass or remove a magnetic ballast completely or just remove the starter. Several LED tube lights feature an LED starter for making installation simpler. However, if you want to bypass the ballast, then I recommend you to take the help of an electrician.

Connecting the new tube

After that, connect the LED tube light to the fixture. The tubelight will have a neutral connection at one end and a live connection at the other. Please make sure the wires in the fitment complement this. If you connect both neutral and live to one end of the LED tubelight, you will cause a short circuit.

Reconnecting the fixture to the power supply

Make sure there aren’t any wires left loose. Switch the tubelight on and check that it is working properly.
