How to Install Stone Veneer on Interior Wall?

Stone veneer does give an elegant look to the house. We opted for it last year and during the work execution, I learned how to install stone veneer on interior wall. It is a tricky job and must be done by professionals. You will have to prepare the wall, mix mortar, create the desired pattern, apply stone sealer and let it dry. 

How to Apply Stone Veneer to Interior Wall?

The stone veneer interior wall installation process is as follows:

• Prepare the Wall: The first step is to start preparing the wall. For drywall, you can bind a metal lath using corrosion-resistant screws. For cement or brick walls, clean the surface thoroughly.

• Apply Scratch Coat: Mix mortar to a creamy consistency. Apply a 1/2-inch layer over the metal lath or directly onto the cement wall. Use a notched trowel to create grooves in the wet mortar for better adhesion.

• Layout Design: Arrange the stone veneer pieces on the ground to create your desired pattern. This allows you to picture the layout and make necessary adjustments before adhering them to the wall.

• Apply Mortar: Using a trowel, apply a generous amount of mortar to the back of each stone veneer piece. Ensure the mortar covers the entire back surface for a strong bond.

• Install Stone Veneer: Press the stone veneer firmly onto the scratch coat, starting from the bottom and working your way up. Hold each piece in place for a few seconds to secure it.

• Fill Gaps: Once all pieces are in place, use a grout bag to fill in any gaps between the stones with mortar. Smooth the mortar joints with a jointing tool.

• Clean and Seal: Wipe away extra mortar with a damp sponge. Once dry, apply a stone sealer to protect the veneer and enhance its appearance.
