Hi,

A few years back, I constructed a new room in our house. The construction was done from the base. Since last year, cracks have started to appear on the walls of that room. I got curious and started to research the cause of crack in concrete.

Following this, I learned a lot about cracks in concrete and whether they are concerning or not. Here are some of the things that you should know about cracks in concrete.

What Are The Concrete Crack Reason?

To determine the reason for concrete cracks and why these cracks appear, you should know about the types of cracks.

Types Of Concrete Cracks And Why The Occour

Hairline Crack

: These cracks appeared in my house and should be repaired if they widen with time.

Settlement Crack:

These can appear if the ground beneath the slab isn’t done correctly.

Shrinkage Crack

: Generally, it happens when the concrete is curing. These can be prevented with the right joint placement.

Structural Crack

: These are as wide as a credit card and need to be repaired immediately.

There is no definite answer to when a crack might start causing problems. The crack might seem acceptable for the builder, but the owner needs to stay with it for the rest of their lives.

But any crack that is wider than a credit card and keeps widening needs to be repaired as soon as possible. These might lead to irreversible structural damage in the future. Mine were hairline cracks which I got fixed during painting job. Hopefully, now you are aware of the cause of crack in concrete.

I would say that one of the greatest and most economical ways to give your wall a real stone-like texture is with stone veneers. I have installed them at my home and they look amazing. You can select from a range of natural stone textures. The fact that these panels are lightweight and easy to handle is their best feature. It's even simpler to install things in your home with that much handling comfort. Let me tell you how to install stone veneer over exterior brick.

How to install stone veneer panels?

Step 1: The first and most important stage is to determine the materials needed. Determine how much stone you'll need, and make adjustments if your project calls for cornerstones. For every linear foot of corners, you must subtract approximately one square foot.

Step 2: Surface preparation preserves your panels structurally sound for many years to come and guards against any water damage.

Step 3: The scratch coat of type N or Type S mortar should now be applied. If you want a high-quality mortar mix:

  • Think of combining 1.25 parts sand and 1.25 parts N or S cement. The bond coat and seam grouting can both be done with the same mortar.

  • When the mixture is done, spread a 12 to 34-inch layer of it over the entire area.

  • Before you begin putting the stone veneer panels, give the coat at least 24 hours to dry.

Step 4: Clean the panels and arrange the stones on a flat surface before attaching them to the walls to find the best arrangement. You can also experiment with other wall texture designs.

Step 5: Now you can begin installing stone veneer panels. On the scratch coat and the back of each stone piece, spread a layer of mortar 12 inches thick. To prevent the mortar from drying out, always apply the mixture in tiny sections. These wall coverings' appearance and texture are exactly like genuine stone.

Step 6: Fill in the spaces between each stone piece using the same mortar mixture that you used for the scratch coat and bonding mortar. Add a mortar coating of 1/2 inch thickness over the joints. After completing the joint filling, clean the entire surface.
