Hi there, I came to tell you a DIY method for wall panel installation at home. We applied MDF wood panelling over one of our bedroom walls through this method, and the outcome was pleasing. To start the installation, you first need to sketch a plan and prepare the wall.

I’ll share the complete process below so you can go through each step and work accordingly.

What is the Method for Attaching Wall Panels?

  1. Take a copy and sketch the final result of the panels installed on your wall. This will help you in deciding the number of panels required. If you choose boxed panels, sketch the design roughly as the beginning step.

  2. Now is the time to measure your wall. For this, measure the width and height of the wall. Measure the width and height of the wall panels now. Depending on the height and width of the wall, you’ll be able to find the number of panels needed. Be careful when you note down each measurement to place the panels perfectly and in the right numbers.

  3. Depending on the size of your wall, you’ll have to cut the panels or the area of the wall you wish to panel. Take a mitre box and a saw, and cut the panels at an angle of 90 degrees.

  4. Use sandpaper or an electric sander to sand the wall and smoothen the surface.

  5. Add the frame to the wall. Start with the base panels, and then move to the top. With the help of a laser level, make sure the panels are straight in alignment. Use a strong adhesive on the back of the panel and attach it to the wall. Press down the panel event and leave it to dry. Place vertical panels first and then the horizontal ones.

  6. Once the panelling is done, check for gaps, cracks and holes. Use caulk to fill in these gaps.

  7. Use a suitable primer for the panel material and prime the surface. You may need a second coat of primer if the surfaces are wood or masonry or if you need to cover dark colours.

  8. Once you check that the primer, filler, caulk and adhesive are all dry, paint the panels. Once the first paint coat dries, apply a second coat.

This is the process for wall panel installation. I hope this helps.
