I can help you learn how to install a window air conditioning unit. We recently purchased a Voltas window AC for our room, and I looked over the complete installation process done by the technicians.
How do I Install a Window AC Unit?
I would recommend two people to do this job as lifting and installing an AC is a tedious task.
Go through the instruction manual first and know the parts, including the hardware and fasteners.
I also suggest you buy a steel bracket for supporting larger window ACs. Mount it on the outside of the house wall, just below the windowsill.
Next, you need to lift the window’s lower sash and centrally align the AC on the windowsill. Pull down the lower sash to the point that it is connected to the top of the AC directly behind the metal flange.
Ensure you exert pressure downwards on the lower sash. This will prevent the AC from dropping outside the window.
You’ll find two L-shaped metal brackets. Use one on the left, top edge of the lower sash. Take a cordless drill and screw the bracket to the upper sash.
Do the same with the other metal bracket by installing it on the right side of the lower sash.
You might require short screws to run through the metal flange positioned across the top of the AC and into the lower sash.
Take the two accordion-shaped extensions, each on either side of the AC. Pull out each extension to close off the space to the right and left of the unit.
Take the vertical flange of every extension and screw them to the window jambs.
Use the foam-rubber weather stripping and place it into the space, which runs along the top edge of the lower sash to prevent outside elements.
So, this is how to install a window air conditioner in a window. I hope you find the steps helpful.

Hi,
Have you purchased a window AC? And must be thinking about window AC installation correctly. Remember that, Window air conditioners can be installed easily and quickly when compared to split ACs. Since the AC unit is quite heavy make sure you have help while installing it. Now, let’s get into,
Steps for how to install window AC:- Measurements
Measure the window AC's height and breadth. Make sure the measurements are correct because they will determine how sturdy the window AC will be when in use. Take measurements of the window as well, and make a note of the differences.
- A frame for installing a window air conditioner
It's now time to construct the AC's frame. Make a frame out of plywood that matches the dimensions of the AC unit. Make sure the frame is strong and robust.
- Remove the air conditioner from the cabinet
Now it's time to put the cabinet in the frame. Make sure the cabinet is installed with a little inclination toward the outside. This is done to ensure that all of the condensed water moves outdoors due to gravity.
- Installing the Window Air Conditioner in the Cabinet
Now carefully lift the air conditioner and locate it into the cabinet. Replace the front cover and filter on the air conditioner, and you're done.
- Insulation and waterproofing
There should be no holes in the window to ensure maximum cooling from the window AC. Fill any gaps and holes with foam and seal them. This will also keep mosquitoes and dust out of the room. To establish a secure seal from the outside, use Foam Insulation Tape.
I hope this answer would help you with window AC installation.
