Recently, I constructed a small extra room and planned to get a wood ceiling. Since the room was small, I decided to install the wooden ceiling on my own. To learn how to install wood ceiling, I did some research. I started the process by measuring the dimensions of the room to learn about the materials needed. Then I plan the layout of the grid system, light fixtures, ventilation, and access panels.

How to Put Wood on Ceiling?

Here is what I did next.

  • After that, use a level and chalk to mark the position of the wall angles in the room. Following that, attach the wall angles to the walls using ceiling fixings and anchors. I have added the rest of the steps below.

  • Measure and cut the main runner runners to fit the room length. Next, use a suspension wire to secure the main runners.

  • Now, cut the cross tees according to the required lengths and insert them into the slots to form a pattern grid. When cutting the cross tees, you need to ensure that they fit between the main runners.

  • After that, measure and cut the ceiling tiles in such a way as to fit the grid. Following that, insert the tiles into the grid.

  • Finally, install lighting fixtures and check if the installation has any gaps or misalignments.

If there are, then make the required adjustments accordingly. I hope this helps.

How to Calculate False Ceiling Area?

I am renovating my house, and I’ve bought heavy lighting for my false ceiling. My home interior designer suggested that I opt for a wooden false ceiling installation. As this will allow me to install additional lights without worrying about the ceiling drooping.

What is the Wooden False Ceiling Fixing Details?

  • Measure the ceiling and Choose the Planks:

Measure the length and width of the space with a tape measure. Multiply the width and length measurements to find the ceiling's square footage. Purchase enough planks to cover the square footage plus an additional 10% for errors and waste.

  • Prepare and apply paint to the planks:

Use a 6" foam roller to apply primer to the boards after pouring it into a prepared paint tray. Applying a thin coat of primer and using a paintbrush to remove any drips can prevent the pieces from fitting together properly. Paint the same area when the priming has dried.

  • Cut and Measure Planks:
  1. Ascertain which way the room's ceiling planks will run. Planks can be nailed into ceiling joists if they are oriented perpendicular to the joists. If the planks are lightweight and running parallel to the joists, they can be nailed straight into the drywall.

  2. Ascertain the dimensions of the planks to fit the ceiling and use a chop saw to make any necessary cuts.

  3. When installing crown moulding, make sure to cut the pieces just a little bit smaller than the width of the wall.

  4.  If you aren't installing moulding or trim, make sure the parts fit precisely. Cut as many planks as needed to cover the ceiling.

  • Set up the planks:

It's preferable to finish this phase in pairs. Begin on the most visible side of the room. First, align the plank flush with the wall and use a finishing nailer to nail it into the ceiling. Make sure the tongues on the second plank are aligned and the planks form a continuous, straight line before applying it to finish the first row.

  • Removing Light Fixtures with Care:

Shut down the room's electricity at the breaker box once the ceiling treatment reaches a light fixture. Take out the lighting fixture. (Depending on the fixture, this step may require a drill) Mark the width and depth with a pencil while holding the plank up to the ceiling outlet. Using a jigsaw, remove the indicated region.

  • Patch up holes in nails and touch up paint:

To fill in nail holes, use your fingers to apply a mild spackle. Caulk the ceiling's edges and gaps for a neater appearance.

I hope this helps!
