I was lying on my bed on a lazy sunday when I observed something unusual. It was a freaking centipede. I jumped out immediately and ran to my mom. I screamed on top of my lungs that there is a centipede in my bed. She looked at me and rolled her eyes. I knew she didn’t bother about my screams because I freak out over the smallest things :P Anyway, I asked her how to keep centipedes out of your bed Maa, to which she simply said, thodi hawa aane diya karo room me (let the air pass through your room).

I went back to my room and gave it thought, she was partially right but I had to do something more. I will tell you here what I did next.

I looked up and found out that centipedes find home in humid areas and my room was quite humid actually. So this is what I pursued next.

  • I put the bedsheet in a washing detergent mix and let it soak for about half an hour. 

  • Next, I picked up mattress and let it sit in the sun for about 4-5 hours

  • Meanwhile, I washed all the bedding myself

  • I then got a dehumidifier for my room and installed it

  • After I was convinced there were no more centipedes, I put everything back together

The key is to not let moisture into your furniture or bed if you want to keep centipedes at bay. And you should get pest control done every year, without failure.
