I am an environmentalist and since global warming is increasing every day I have tried some methods to decrease electricity consumption. India is a humid country and living in northern India in summers without having an air conditioner is unbearable. But the methods I tried helped me bear the heat. I am sure if you apply these methods you can also help us decrease air pollution. The methods are easy and you will be living a healthy life if you keep following them. At times, we forget that the air conditioner also affects our body. You can get a skin infection, lung infection if you stay for a long time in AC. I will share with you some tips below on how to keep house cool in summer naturally.

How to keep room cool in summer naturally?

Keep cool water

You can place cool water near your window to keep your room cool during mid-day. The sun is high up during this time and the heat is unbearable. I use two small buckets and place them near my window. I wake up in the morning and pour the cool water in the bucket. Do not try to use the water you get during the afternoon. It is hot like fire.

Keep the room dark

After a long day of work, you can relax by keeping the room dark. Keep the windows open. If you have a window or a balcony in the south you are in luck. You can enjoy the cold breeze from the south in the evening.

Keep small plants on the balcony

Money plants and snake plants help in purifying the air. You can keep them on the balcony. These plants release moisture which can help hydrate the air you are breathing.

Buy a humidifier

You can purchase a humidifier. It helps you to cool down. I have bought a humidifier online and I turn it on when the heat is extreme.

These are things to keep my home airy and cool during summer in India.

LED lights

Fluorescent lights have a high wattage and they heat up the room quickly. So I installed LED lights with low wattage which does not emit UV rays to prevent the heating of room by lights.

Curtains

I have purchased black-out curtains to get rid of the extreme heat during noon. Since I place a bucket of water in the room and close the drapes during noon the temperature remains normal.

Traditionally, Indians have used curtains woven of natural materials like Jute, Bamboo, banana fiber, etc to block the sun but keep the ventilation of air. Also, Khus curtains can be used during the sweltering summers, which can be sprinkled with water. Every time the breeze passes through these curtains, it cools down.

I hope my answer on how to keep house cool in summer naturally in India was helpful.
