It’s all fun and joy until you spot an uninvited guest in your home or garden. We had an attic in Kurseong and we were celebrating new year but it all turned out to be a frantic night because my little sister spotted a snake in the washroom. It wasn’t a good hour let me tell you and we were all just freaking out. We wanted to know nothing more than how to keep snakes away from home in India. Thankfully, a few local friends helped us out and kept us sane. I am going to share my experience with you.

How to prevent snakes from entering your house in India

So now that you know what transpired with us, let me take you through the whole journey of avoiding snakes at home in India.

  • First things first, try and keep as much distance as you can from the snake. Don’t be an oversmart a** and stay away.

  • Snakes can be kept away by using a good spray of water. Since we saw the snake in the washroom, we used the hand jet spray.

  • While we were at it, my kind neighbour brought ammonia and soaked every piece of cloth available in there into ammonia. Apparently, snakes cannot stand the smell

  • We called up pest guys and they instructed us to lock the washroom and seal any holes that could lead it to any other place.

Next morning the snake catcher came in and thankfully caught the snake. We were told that it was not venomous.

We were advised to get rid of all the wood and stone piles in our garden and get a good fencing done so that snakes don’t feel invited.
