A TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number, which is required to be quoted on while filing TCS/TDS/Annual Information Returns, certificates, and payment challans. You are required to obtain it by everyone who is responsible for collecting and deducting taxes. How to know the TAN number:

  1. Go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

  2. Go to the ‘Know Your TAN’ option.

  3. Under the ‘TAN Search’ option, choose ‘TAN’ or ‘Name’.

  4. Choose ‘Category of Deductor’ and ‘State’

  5. Fill in the ‘TAN’ or Name’ details based on the option chosen under ‘TAN Search’.

  6. Enter the registered mobile number and press the ‘Continue’ button.

  7. Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number and ‘Validate’ it.
