People at my place are more into aesthetic or simple looks than that of vibrant and cheerful. I recently visited a restaurant where a brick wall without plaster was painted brown and the floor looked as if it was made of wood. Such things are not seen quite often and that is what makes them look all more beautiful. I was so pleased by the interior that I am planning to use wood look tile flooring on my new house as well. I have even started researching a lot about it and would like to share everything I have learned till date.

What is a wood-like tile?

You must have already noticed that there are now several types of tiles in the market and now, wood-like looking tiles are very much in trend. Such tiles are like general tiles, only the texture looks like that of wood. If you use such tiles for flooring, the floor will look as if it is made of wood and that is why it is called wood-like tile. I have seen that they are more durable than laminate flooring that are often used to give the floor a wood like look and will thus ask you to try it as well.

How to lay tile that looks like wood

There are a few steps you need to follow to lay tile that looks like wood that are:

  • At first make sure that the floor is perfectly flat and no area is lower or above than the rest of the surface.

  • Clear the surface area and remove any debris or dirt

  • Cut the tiles that you are going to place near the door jambs and calculate the space required for the door jambs to fit in the new tile

  • Make a good mortar consistency so that the tiles can stick nicely

  • Apply mortar on the subfloor

  • Install the tiles and do check the level with a thread or other thing

  • Clear the grout joints and then do the grouting.

  • Leave the area for few hours and then clean the excess grout with a sponge (not on the joint)

  • You can apply a sealer of the entire floor for its longevity

  • You can also go for caulking if you want

It is better to hire experts for installing tiles since I have seen that the level needs to be correct or else, the drainage system won’t be good.
