• Irrigation:

To effectively water the garden, install a drip irrigation system or use soaker hoses. 

• Add shade structures:

Such as pergolas or umbrellas, to provide a relaxing seating area and shield plants from too much sunlight.

• Regular Maintenance:

Water, prune, and fertilise your plants on a regular basis. Pests and diseases should be looked for and treated right away.

There are a couple of things you should consider before starting off. Just check that you are complying with building regulations and that your roof is structurally sound. Once that is ascertained you can go ahead and follow the tips I am sharing with you.

• Choose the plants carefully

You will have to be particular about what type of plants you want to grow in your roof garden. While selecting them just figure out the requirements of those plants. How much sunlight do they need, will they be able to survive in the environment and how will their growth be.

• Select the right pots and containers

Once you have selected your plants go on to choose the pots or containers that will hold them. Depending on how the plant grows, you can choose the planters. If you want to have something funky or quirky, there are many options in ceramic pots. I have also made some pots myself out of buckets and bottles. 

• Prepare the soil

Read beforehand about the soil requirements of each plant. You may need coco peat, river sand, garden soil, compost, etc. Just get information on the proportion of each of these elements required by each plant.

• Settle the plants

Now sow the plants and water them thoroughly. Place them at the right spots as per the analysed conditions those plants require.
