It is indeed annoying to continuously hear the outdoor noise at your home. Hence, many people opt for sound proofing. So, here are a few ways you can soundproof your apartments: Drywalls Drywalls are nothing but an additional layer of wall to control sound vibration. This is the most widely used method and most preferred method for sound proofing. However, do not install drywall in every room. Identify the rooms where the noise permeation is maximum. Insulation Insulation is another way to soundproof the walls. However, not all insulation is effective in reducing noise. Cellulose, fibreglass and foam insulations are said to be the most effective in soundproofing the walls. These are used and installed in walls, roofs and floors. Mass-Loaded Vinyl Mass Loaded Vinyl or MVL is a sound barrier blocking material known as a “Limp Mass Barrier.” The material is composed of two principle ingredients: vinyl — to give the MLV flexibility and the limpness and, a naturally occurring, high mass element. Acoustic Panels Acoustic panels help in sound absorption. In this, soft surfaces are installed in a room to absorb sound waves. This helps in reducing the echo or unwanted noise in a room. Rugs and Bookshelves Lastly, you can always do DIY. Use rugs or a textured mat if the noise is not high. This will absorb the sound and prevent it from travelling to other spaces. Speaking about bookshelves, it is also known to prevent the noise transmission if placed next to the wall. However, you should keep most of the book shelf packed with books to serve the purpose.
