I always wanted to install a barn door in my bathroom. It just changes the look of the house altogether. I went to my friend’s house and I was introduced to the idea of installing a barn door in the bathroom. My friend suggested to me some tips and tricks on how to make an interior barn door in 30 mins. How to make an interior barn door: An Easy Guide

Tools required:

  • brad nailer

  • 1″ brad nails

  • primed boards: 1×6, 1×4, and 1×2 (got mine from Home Depot)

  • tape measure

  • air compressor

  • wood glue

  1. First measure the door opening to get an idea of cutting the planks and how much wood you will require.

  2. The door should be 4 to 5 inches wider and it should be at least ½ to ¾ taller than the opening. If required you can trim a few inches later to cover up. I used 8ft pieces because 12ft pieces would be a ton for me. I added 1x2 pieces on the side and top of an 8 piece plank. It helped cover the cracks on the sides as well.

  3. I laid 5 pieces of 1x6 boards side by side and started adding glue to each piece.

  4. After measuring the wish I started trimming the top cross.

  5. Applied some glue on the back of the piece as well.

  6. I used nails on the corner to attach the pieces together.

  7. I cut the side trim pieces from 1x4s after measuring the top and bottom pieces.

  8. To attach the side pieces I used glue and nails.

  9. After trimming the face of the door, I trimmed the edges. I cut the top piece at a 45-degree angle on both ends. I cut the side pieces at 45 degrees on one end.

  10. After I was done cutting three pieces I glued and nailed them to their place.

  11. And I was done! I cut a total of 8 pieces and it took me 30 mins to make the barn door.
