We are all excited for Diwali after two years of pandemics. Diwali is the festival of light and we celebrate the victory of good over evil. Since we were stuck inside our home for the last two years I have tried creating Diyas for Diwali. I have tried three different methods and I am more than excited to share with you how to make Diya this Diwali. All the methods I am sharing are simple, tried, and tested. I hope you will have a great time making Diyas by following my methods. I always make the Diyas with my six-year-old son. We have a wonderful time together laughing and creating these Diyas. On Dhanteras me and my son make 13 Diyas and place them in every part of the home.

How to make Diya at home?

The three methods I have tried to make Diya with are clay, flour, and paper.

How to make Diwali lamp with clay?

To make a Diwali lamp with clay I purchased a box of colorful clay. With it I needed a thread and an empty refill.

I took a portion of clay and tried rolling it with both my palms. After I made a round ball I slowly pressed the ball with my thumb. I made a sharp tip at the rim after the ball started taking the shape of a small bowl. After I made the sharp tip my Diya was ready and I took a used refill and started making cuts on the sides of the Diya. I placed a cotton thread inside the Diya and it was ready.

It barely took me 5 minutes to make a Diya. You can try it too!

How to make Diwali lamp with flour?

To make the Diya with flour, I needed half a cup of wheat flour, water for kneading, one-fourth cup of oil, 3 thin strips of cotton threads, nail polish, beads, glue, and a paintbrush.

I made a dough with flour and water. The dough I made was not too soft. It was on the thicker side. After making the dough I took a portion of it and tried shaping it like Diya, like one I made with clay. I baked it in the microwave so that it becomes harder. I baked it for 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. My Diya was ready, I painted it with blue and red colored nail polish. After drying it, put some yellow-colored beads to decorate it. I used glue to stick the beads. After this, I placed a cotton thread or the batti and I was ready to light my Diya.

You can try this method, but it took me 2 hours to make the Diyas. It is time-consuming but if you have free time in your hands this is the best method.

How to make paper lamp for Diwali?

If you want to know how to make Diya with paper for home decoration I have a simple method for you. Since I love decorating my house on Diwali I also made some Diya with paper too. The results I got following this method were fruitful.

To make Diya with paper is glittery ink, water-based glass colors, Glue, OHP Sheets, A4 sheets, Golden thread, needle, beads, scissors.

I made a drawing of the Diya on A4 sheet paper. After drawing I placed the OHP sheet over the drawing and started making the outlines of the Diya. I used glittery ink (3D outliner Glitter Gold 401). After drying it, I started cutting the Diyas with scissors. I glued the small beads on the Diya and attached them with a needle and a thread. I also used beads in the middle of my Diyas while threading them.

I hope my answer on how to make Diya was helpful.
