As a painter, I know how frustrating it can be to wait for oil paint to dry on wooden surfaces. However, I've listed some methods below that I found online. It can assist in speeding up the drying process. But, before that, let’s check:

Oil-based paints often require more time, with surface dry periods of 6 to 8 hours and re-coating times of 16 to 24 hours. As compared to oil-based paints, water-based latex paints dry more quickly, with a surface dry time of roughly 1 to 2 hours and a re-coat time of 4 to 6 hours.

Let’s now learn the process to dry the paint faster apart from what Ana mentioned above.

How to Make Oil Paint Dry Faster on Wood?

  • Put the painted wood in a space that has sufficient airflow and ventilation. As a result, the drying process will go more swiftly since the moisture may escape.

  • Utilising a drying medium is an efficient way to fasten the drying of oil paint on wood. Oil paint can be used with the chemicals like Alkyd resin or others, which are sold in art supply stores. Simply mix it with your oil paint before painting the wood surface. To use the drying medium safely and effectively, it is imperative to read and abide by the manufacturer's instructions.

How to dry paint fast?

We can use acrylic paints on walls but for wooden furniture we generally use oil paint. So, I will explain how to make oil based paint dry faster on wood.

Here is the step by step guide on how to dry oil paint faster:

  • Apply thin layer of coats on wooden furniture

While you may feel that applying a thick coat can give better results it's better to go for thinner coats so that the paint dries faster. You add a second layer of paint if required after the first layer has mostly dried up.

  • Paint One Furniture at a Time

Paint one wall at a time and let it dry. By the time you have finished painting the last piece of furniture, you will find the furniture you have painted in the beginning has dried up and it is ready for a second coat.

  • Use hair dryer or heater

To speed up the process you use a hair dryer or use a room heater. If it's a sunny day, you can keep the furniture under the sun for a while to dry up the paint faster. While using the hair dryer I would advise you to focus on the place that is drying slowly. Keep the dryer 2 inches away from the surface to make sure the paint doesn't blister.
