TDS is tax deducted at source. When someone deducts TDS before making payment, he/she needs to deposit the TDS to the government for smooth flow of tax information. In order to deduct TDS and make TDS payment online, the deductee must have a TAN number. TAN is Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number. You must have TAN while making payment of TDS. Here is a step by step process on how to make TDS Payment online. Read on.

How to make TDS payment?
  • Visit the official website of TIN and scroll down to ‘TDS/TCS’ section. Click on ‘proceed.’

  • Enter challan details including

    (0020) Company Deductee/ (0021) Non-Company Deductees, type of payment, payment mode, TAN details, assessment year, address, mobile number, email id

  • Enter captcha 

  • Hit ‘Proceed.’

  • You will be redirected to the payments page.

  • Enter the payment details, i.e. the amount to be paid.

  • Click on submit

  • On successful payment, a challan counterfoil shall be displayed containing the CIN No., payment details, and bank name through which e-payment has been made

  • Verify online using CIN Based review or TAN Based review

Why is TAN important?

As mentioned above,

Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is required to deposit TDS. According to Section 203A of the Income Tax Act, individuals and businesses must obtain TAN as per Government of India mandate to deduct or collect tax.
