If you have bought a piece of land and want to know how to measure plot area then I can help you out. After being around many builders and developers I have started to gather knowledge about their methodology to do the calculation. There is math and a few formulas involved in the process so try to stick around. Here is how to calculate plot area in square feet.
How to measure a plot of land?So there are many shapes in which you will find a plot. I can share the method to calculate the area below:
For a square plot area is (length)2Example: Assume the length of the plot is 50 feet then the area will
Area of a square plot = (50)
2
Area of a square plot = 2500 feet
For a rectangular plot area is calculated as length x breadthExample: Assume the length of your plot is 50 feet and breadth is 30 feet then the area will be:
Area of rectangular plot = Length x Breadth
Area of rectangular plot = 50 x 30
Area of rectangular plot = 1500 feet
For a triangular plot area is calculated as √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))s indicates half the perimeter of the triangle, and a, b,c are sides
Example: Assume a plot has three sides measuring the length of 16m, 26m and 20m respectively. Here is how you will calculate the area of a triangular plot.
Area of triangular plot = √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))
S = (a+b+c)/2
S = (16+26+20)/2
s= 31
Area of triangular plot = √(31(31-16)(31-26)(31-20))
= √(31(15)(5)(11))
= √25575
= 159.9 m
2
= 1721.14 feet
Area of irregular polygon plotIf your plot has an irregular polygon shape then draw a map and divide the area in legible shapes then calculate the area of each polygon. Once you have all the values, just add them up to get total plot area.
I hope now we are clear about
how to measure plot area.
