Since I was low on budget, I planned to get a laminate floor. Before availing renovation service, I wanted to know how much laminate would be necessary for my house. So, I started looking for processes on how to measure a room for laminate flooring. I learned that there are three basic steps that can be followed to measure that. I have added that below.

How Do You Measure for Laminate Flooring?

For measuring flooring for laminate, the first step is to figure out the square footage of the room, where you want to install laminate flooring. And, for that, you can use a measuring tape and determine the length and breadth and multiply them with each other to get the area of the room.

Let’s understand it with an example. If a room is 12 feet long and 12 feet wide, then the area of the room would be 12 x 12= 144 sq. ft. Here are the next two steps.

  • Add 10% to the area of the room to make up for cuts and waste. This is necessary because the cuts need to be staggered. So, if the area is 144, then plus 10% would make it 158 square feet.

  • The final step is to check with a retailer to get the right order. You can multiply your square-foot needs by the retailer’s price per square to understand how much laminate is actually needed.

And that is all I had learned about measuring flooring for laminate. I hope this helps.
