I learned from a friend that we can add laminate flooring to stairs, and to learn how to measure laminate flooring for stairs, I started searching online. I learned the process starts by measuring the width, tread, and riser of the stairs. Stairs are nearly the same size, but being extra careful, you can measure every step.

How to Measure Stairs for Laminate Flooring?

After the measuring part is done, you need to calculate the area of each step. For that, you need to add the tread and riser measurements and multiply them by the width. By doing this, you will learn about the area of each step. Here’s what you need to do next.

  • Calculate the total area of the staircase. For that, you need to multiply the area of one step by the total number of steps. If you are measuring the area of each step, then you can add an area of all the steps together to find the total area of the stairs.

  • If your staircase has landings or platforms, then measure them as well and add them to the total square footage.

  • After the calculation, when you make the order, ensure to order at least 10% more material than the calculated amount. This is done to make up for any mistakes during the installation process.

And that’s it. This is how you should be able to measure stairs for laminate flooring. I hope this helps.
