Hi, I came across your question on how to measure the land area. I believe I can help you with that as I recently helped my cousin in purchasing land after calculating the area. I have added the necessary steps below.

How to Measure Area of Land?

All of us are aware of the basic formula for calculating area, which is Length x Width. Now, here are the steps that you need to follow to find the area.

  • First, measure the length and width of the area. You can use a measuring tape to find the length and width of the land in feet or meters.

  • Next, you need to calculate the area by multiplying the length and width of the area. For example, if the length is 50 feet and the width is 30 feet, then the area is 50 × 30 = 1500 sq feet.

  • Following that, you can convert the calculated area in square feet to a unit that is used in your location. For example, in Karnataka, the unit

    Guntha

is used, and 1 Guntha is 1089 sq ft. So, when 1500 sq. feet is converted to Guntha, it comes around 1.5 Guntha.

And that is how to measure site area. I hope this information has been helpful.

You should know how to measure land area if you are looking to buy a property. This can help you avoid legal issues in the future. You can calculate the area of a piece of land in any unit. There are some formulas that you can use to calculate the area of a regular- and irregular-shaped piece of land manually.

How to measure land size of regular-shaped land:

If the land is square, triangular, rectangular, then you can easily measure the area of land using simple geometrical formula.

Let me tell you how to calculate the area of a rectangular-shaped land. For this, the breadth and length of the land are measured at first and the results are multiplied. The product of the breadth and length of the land is the area of the land.

All land isn’t in fixed geometrical shapes such as a square, rectangle, or triangle. So, people usually face difficulty to measure the area of the land that isn’t in a fixed geometrical shape.

How to measure land size of irregular-shaped land:

You can determine an irregularly shaped land by establishing the longest line possible lengthwise through the area’s center. Several lines are then established perpendicular to this centerline. The total no. of lines will depend upon how irregular the shape of the area may be. The more irregular it is, the more lines you will have to draw. You can determine the width of the area from the average length of all these lines.

After finding the length and the breadth of the land, you can calculate the area of the land as a rectangle easily. Similarly, the lines can form a triangle or any fixed shape. You just have to use the relevant formula.

Alternatively, there are several online tools that allow you to measure the area of a piece of land from Google Maps. All you’ll need to do is zoom in to the map and draw a line around the edge of the land on the map. After that, the area of that particular land will appear on the page. However, it’ll only be a rough calculation.
