Before we continue about how to move a piano in a pickup truck, I should point out that transporting a piano in a pickup truck is critical and you should get it properly the first time, as getting it wrong can be a costly mistake.

While writing this answer I want to share my experience of how to move a piano down stairs. When I was relocating, this was my major concern. My piano is quite costly and I wanted to transport it without any scratches. Hence without giving a second thought, I opted for the NoBroker packers and movers service. If you want to know how to move a piano yourself? I would like to say that you can follow the below-mentioned steps to move it yourself. I have shared the steps which I witnessed from the packers and movers team. Hence you can follow the same. • Make a route plan

You'll need to take measurements of each step involved before deciding how to move a grand piano by yourself. 

Measuring the dimensions of the piano, as well as every corridor and doorway it must travel through, is the first step in plotting the course. Professional piano movers will always do this before providing you with a quote.

• Putting the lid on or taking it off

You'll need to prepare that piano for the trip before you can relocate it.

The first step in this journey is to close the lid and secure it as tightly as possible. When you're on the go and in that tight awkward corner with nowhere to flee, nothing is scarier than a lid flinging open in your face.

You'll have to tape or strap the lid down if it doesn't latch.

If the lid of a baby grand piano is very large, you'll need to remove it and cover it separately in furniture blankets for shipping. The lid is usually secured in place using easily accessible screws.

You won't have to worry about scratching the mirror surface if you wrap the piano with furniture blankets. You can also use robust bed quilts to improvise.

A thick padded furniture blanket meant for transport, on the other hand, provides the most protection and is easiest to fit onto a piano.

• Placing the piano on a piano board is a good idea

The piano will be attached to the board with buckle straps that may be tightened around it. It takes pure muscle to place a piano on a piano board. You'll need to coordinate with your roommates to pull the piano straight up like a dead weight without exerting any pressure on the legs. The legs are usually decorative, but they will snap if there is too much pressure applied during the movement procedure.

Remove the legs if at all possible. To keep the screws from each component separate, place them in separate baggies.

You'll also need to take out the lyre and metal plate assembly if you have a baby grand piano.

This must be transported wrapped in individual furniture coverings. If you have a piano without legs, you also need to remove the casters.

• Along the trip, use a spotter

Having someone who isn't lifting anything to guide traffic and scout for potential hazards along the way will speed up the procedure and make it much safer.

Allow the spotter to keep an eye out for hazardous locations along the route spots to protect the piano from sharp corners and sticky circumstances.

The spotter should spend the majority of their time in front of the piano plotting the path.

• Lifting straps or plywood ramps

If you have a plywood ramp made up at each stairway, you may find it easier to roll down sets of steps.

If the weight is not too heavy, it may be preferable to simply use moveable straps on the piano board that attach to your forearms.
