Getting a legal heir certificate in Uttar Pradesh is an important process for identifying and officially recognising the rightful legal heirs of a deceased person. This certificate is essential for various legal purposes, including transferring property, claiming insurance, settling bank accounts, and other financial matters. As far as I know, getting Uttar Pradesh legal heir certificate online is not possible. You can get it from the Tehsil Office.

The following individuals can claim a legal heir certificate:

  • Spouse of the deceased

How to Get Legal Heir Certificate in Uttar Pradesh?

Before going through the process, you must ensure you have the following documents ready for the application:

  • Death Certificate of the deceased (issued by the municipal corporation or relevant authority)

  • Identity Proof of the applicant (Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, etc.)

  • Address Proof of the applicant (utility bill, ration card, etc.)

  • Family Tree/Proof of Relationship (if applicable)

  • Self-Affidavit declaring the relationship with the deceased

  • Any relevant property or financial documents (if applicable)

Now, follow the below method to get the legal heir certificate in UP.

  • You will need to visit the Tehsil office under whose jurisdiction the deceased resided. The Tahsildar, or a designated officer, handles the issuance of Legal Heir Certificates in Uttar Pradesh.

  • Get the Legal Heir Certificate application form from the Tehsil office or download it from the official district website only if available.

  • Fill in all necessary details, including the name of the deceased, date of death, names and relationships of the legal heirs and so on.

  • Submit the duly filled application form along with the required documents.

  • Pay the nominal application fee (varies by district).

  • The Tehsildar’s office will verify the details provided in the application.

  • A revenue inspector or a village officer may conduct a field inquiry to confirm the applicant's claim.

Once the verification is complete, the Tehsildar will approve the application and you will get the legal heir certificate. I hope you understand the process to get Uttar Pradesh legal heir certificate online or offline.
