I had to move my desktop to my new home. To arrive safely, I researched how to pack a computer for moving securely. I found that it can be done by organizing the cable, labeling it, collecting packing materials, etc. Let me walk you through how I did it in detail.
How to Pack a PC for Moving?
Here are the steps I followed to pack my PC for moving:
Backup Data and Power Off
I backed up all my important files. I properly shut down my computer and then unplugged it. I removed all power cords, and carefully disconnected accessories like the monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
Label and Organize
It’s hard to figure out which cable goes where. So, I labeled each cable with paper tape and a marker. Then, I grouped them together using rubber bands and sealed them in a bag.
Collect Packing Materials
I still had the original packaging for my computer. But if you don’t, get some cardboard boxes and plenty of padding like bubble wraps, packing papers, and air pockets. I lined the bottom of the box with newspaper for cushioning.
Wrap and Pack
I wrapped my CPU carefully in packing paper and placed it in the hard box by filling the gaps.
After making sure everything was secure in the box, I labeled the box as “Fragile”.
By following these steps on how to pack a computer monitor for moving, my computer made it to my new place without a scratch. However, if you're moving and want peace of mind, definitely hire a professional to pack and shift your PC properly.
