How to Pack Moving Boxes?

Hello Vandana. We were shifting homes last month, and we planned to pack and move our belongings ourselves. I have moved across cities before, so I have a decent knowledge of how to pack a box. There are some things that you need to consider before beginning to pack. One is the total item list, and the second is having boxes of different sizes. This will help in efficient packaging. I’ll share the rest below.

How to Pack a Shipping Box?

Here is how you can pack moving boxes:

1. Start by categorising your items to be packed. You can place it under fragile, heavy, light and type of items like electronics, furniture, etc.

2. Before placing the fragile items, wrap them in multi-layered bubble wraps.

3. For heavy and fragile items, use small boxes. This is helpful because heavy items are difficult to carry. By limiting them to smaller boxes, you make carrying them easy and there's also less chance of damage.

4. For light items like pillows, use big boxes, so you can stuff as much as possible and the weight remains manageable.

5. The rule for packing is to eliminate the maximum empty space. Fill up the boxes by packing peanuts, balls of newspaper or bubble wrap.

6. Seal the box from both ends with packing tape. Double the tape to ensure the box is secured.

7. Label the boxes as per the item and whether they are fragile, heavy or light.

So before packing boxes for moving, make sure you have the items I mentioned above. Once you have them handy,

• Organise items in the box: 

Start putting items of similar sizes and weights in a particular box. Once you reach your destination, you can easily figure out which box has your small or big items. But make sure you label them properly. If you want, you can pack things as per rooms as well.

• Fill in the boxes completely:

Make sure you fill all the boxes tightly. If the boxes aren’t full, they will have more space to move and tend to get damaged. You can use paper to fill gaps. 

• Take extra care for fragile items:

Make sure you use paper or bubble wrap to protect your fragile items in the box. If you do not pack them properly, they will shatter into pieces, so go for extra padding for their protection.

• Seal and label each box:

Once you are done inserting items in the boxes, make sure you seal them properly using the tape and label them. If you forget these two tasks, you might get your goods damaged and fail to figure out which box contains what items.
