How to Paint Fake Wood Furniture?
Safety Measures
Make sure your room has proper ventilation by keeping the doors and windows open when working with spray paint or oil based paint.
Spread out a newspaper or a waste cloth in your workspace to prevent stains.
You can tape the areas that you don't want to paint with a painter’s tape, making it easier for cleaning.
Surface Preparation
You can start sanding with 60-80 grit sandpaper for a rough surface and 120 grit sandpaper, if the surface is smooth to remove any defects.
Wipe away the sand dust with a tack cloth before spraying warm soapy water on the surface. You can use an old toothbrush to scrub the hard stains. For rinsing use fresh water.
Acrylic Primer
You can apply gray or white colour primer using a flat paint brush or sprayer.
You may need 2 coats of primer for best results.
Painting
You will need light, dark and medium brown shades of acrylic paint.
First, paint the whole surface with medium brown paint using a pointed brush. Then apply the dark brown shade completely on the surface using a coarse brush. Lastly, coat the lightest shade in thin strokes.
Allow each layer of primer and paint to dry before the next step.
