Hi, I had an old wooden bookshelf. I started reading books last year and thought of painting the shelf to revive its look and use it to store my books. I did a little DIY which gave me a good result. So, I will be happy to share how to paint a wood bookshelf
How to Paint Wood Bookshelf?
Here is the process you can follow:
Pick a suitable paint for your wooden bookshelf. The best choice would be to go for a premium paint meant for indoor painting.
Now, you need to pick your screwdriver to remove the hardware. Take off the screws and hinges from the bookshelf that aren’t going to be painted.
Then, apply painter’s tape over the areas where the screws will go to prevent the paint from dripping into those areas.
Take a damp cloth and wipe it all over the bookshelf to remove dirt and dust. Then, use a soft and dry cloth to wipe the bookshelf again.
Once the shelf has dried, use a wood filler and fill any cracks or holes. Sand down the surface using a sanding sponge.
This is a necessary step. Primer helps the painting process, so don’t skip it. Apply a good coat of primer and leave the bookshelf to dry.
Paint with your choice of colour. Apply two coats and give appropriate drying time between each.
Once the paint has dried completely, remove the painter;s tape and place back the hardware using the screwdriver.
If you wish to know how to repaint a bookshelf without sanding, you can use a deglosser. Also, a stain blocking primer can also work. If you are not sanding, ensure to clean the surface really well.
