How to Paint around a Ceiling Fan?

My living room’s ceiling looked so grimy and it always showed in my vlogs. I had always wanted to paint them but the ceiling fan made it impossible for me to do it alone. Recently, I got a flatmate who raised the same concern, and we collectively decided to paint it together. None of us knew how to paint around a ceiling fan, so we went through a couple of tutorials and got the work done. 

How to Paint around Ceiling Fan?

Here are the steps that we came across to get our ceiling painted:

Prepare the Room

It’s important to prepare the room where you want to do all the painting work. We started by covering the furniture with plastic so we don’t spill the paint. 

To be on the safer side, I had kept a wet rag in case the paint got on anything beside the ceiling.

Clean the Ceiling

Our ceiling was in the most disastrous condition ever. It took us an hour to clean the entire ceiling. 

We used a steam mop, however you can also use a swiffer for the same. These are the easiest ways to clean the whole thing. 

Small Angled Paint Brush

If you have light fixtures, you can use a painter’s tape to tape them off so they remain paint free. 

We had a ceiling fan, so we used a small paint brush to cut out around the fan. Then, we painted between the blades with a roller. It’s a little tough, considering the blades will move, but we managed it somehow.

Start Painting

We started by painting the perimeter of the room and used a brush with an extension rod. This made it easier to simply roll on the paint without standing on a stool. Then, after painting the ceiling, we cut in at the corners with a small angled brush. 

I hope these tips will help you in your painting quest. However, I think it’s better to involve a professional painter in all these, because we are slightly dissatisfied with how the final finish came out to be. It doesn’t look very sophisticated as we expected. 

Nonetheless, this was our first time trying something like this so it’s up to par. If you want your ceiling to look shiny and flawless, consider hiring a professional. I hope this helps you get an idea of how to paint around a ceiling fan.
