Painting the doorknobs is a cool little way to give your doors a new and polished look. A while ago, I completely changed the color of my door and knobs by applying fresh paint. I would thus be able to tell you how to paint metal door knobs. You would need painter’s tape, floral foam, metal spray paint, primer, sandpaper, a marking pen, steel wool, and a tack cloth.
Methods of Painting Metal Door Knobs
Here is how you can paint over your metal door knobs:
The first thing to do is to remove the doorknob and lock mechanism from your door. Take photos as you dissemble and label parts for easy reassembly.
Use steel wool to clean the hardware of the doorknob. Sand it afterward to just scuff up the surface, so that it looks dull and not shiny.
Wipe off dust using a tack cloth.
Next, insert a small piece of folded painter’s tape into the keyhole. This is to prevent paint from getting inside the lock mechanism.
Push the door hardware into the foam to easily paint all sides. Work in a well-ventilated place and put down a drop cloth to protect surrounding surfaces from overspray.
Apply the metal primer paint by shaking the can for a while, as per the manufacturer’s instructions and then spraying it.
Once the primer coat dries, spray the hardware with metallic paint. Let it dry and wait for 24 hours before touching it.
Reattach the doorknob and you’re done.
This is all about how to paint brass door knobs. I hope you find the steps useful.
