Last week, I painted my kitchen cabinets on my own. At first, I wasn’t aware of the process and to learn about it, I called a friend of mine. I asked him how do I paint my kitchen cabinets. He told me about the whole process and I have added all the steps below.

Here are the steps that he asked me to follow for painting the kitchen cabinets. 

• He told me to start by selecting high-quality brushes and rollers. He also told me to prepare the painting area with a cloth to protect surfaces and ensure that the cleanup is easier.

• Next. he asked to use a screwdriver to remove the cabinet doors and drawer fronts quickly. Followed by removing all hardware to ensure a clean and easy painting surface.

• After that, he asked me to thoroughly clean all cabinet surfaces to remove grease and dirt, using a cleaning solution. 

• Next I was asked to sand the cabinet door so that the primer could be used easily. 

• The next step was to apply the primer evenly throughout the whole surface.

• Now, I had to paint the surface and let it dry completely for around one to eight hours. 

• To complete the process, he told me to reinstall the cabinet doors and hardware after it had dried out completely.

• Allow sufficient drying time between coats as per the paint's instructions.

• Reattach doors and hardware once the paint is completely dry.

• Consider applying a protective clear coat for added durability and a glossy or matte finish.

If your cabinets have broken handles, mismatched application of joints. This would be the perfect time to either get it fixed or repair it yourself. If you get the fixing done on a later date, the freshly painted cabinet will get ruined.

The best way to paint kitchen cabinets is by a smaller size brush instead of a roller brush. Begin painting the insides of the cabinet. Only once that is dry, you should begin painting the exterior portion.

Before you begin painting, cover the handles, joints, and extra decoration in the cabinets with painting tape or newspaper. This will make sure the paint does not get on these portions.
