I wanted to repaint our navy blue walls, but wasn’t sure about the process. I researched online how to paint over navy blue walls and found some videos. Most of them talked about the importance of preparing the surface, which includes sanding and priming. I didn’t want to take any risk, so I hired a painter. After observing the process, I understood some basic steps, which I’m sharing below.

How to Paint Over a Blue Wall?

It\'s tricky to paint over dark walls, but the right preparation can make it easier. We planned to paint the walls with baby pink, and here are some steps I have seen the professional take.

  1. He used a putty knife to fill the holes in the wall. Then, he used a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the area smooth.

  2. After preparing the surface, he applied primer to create a smooth base and maintain a long-lasting finish.

  3. Then, he used a roller and applied a fresh white coat in a steady motion. With corners and edges, he used a brush to fill those areas.

  4. After some time, he applied another layer when the first coat was dry.

  5. Finally, he applied a fresh coat of paint to the walls using a good-quality brush, which made the application easier.

So, this is how to paint over blue walls. I would suggest you hire a professional who will handle the job more efficiently.

How to Apply Primer on Wall?

Blue walls can be difficult to paint, and I have learned about that the hard way. I tried painting the blue wall of my house with white paint, but blue streaks were showing through the white colour. I hired a painter from NoBroker to solve this issue, and after taking a glance at the wall, he told me that this is not how to paint over blue walls. To paint over blue walls, high quality primers need to be used.

How to Paint Over a Dark Blue Wall?

I started observing the process followed by the NoBroker painter. He proceeded to paint the wall by gathering a few supplies, such as a Paintbrush, paint roller and handle, Paint, painters tape and newspaper, and high-quality primer.

  • He started by spreading newspapers over the whole floor area and securing them with painter's tape.

  • Next, he applied high-quality primer to the wall using a paint roller. After it had dried out, he had applied a second coat of primer.

  • Once the primer was dry, he applied white paint over the walls using a paintbrush.

  • He applied another coat of paint after the wall had dried properly.

And that’s when I learned how to paint over dark blue walls. The whole process might seem easier, but it requires a lot of finesse, which is only possible for a professional. Hope this helps.
