There were multiple stains on my walls. I realised that there is a need to apply a fresh coat of paint. The secret to painting over stains on walls is to prepare the surface well. Stain removal and wall rejuvenation can be accomplished with proper stain coverage and proper priming skills. As I was not sure about how to paint over stained walls, I hired a painter to do the job professionally. I can share the steps that were followed by the painter.

How to Paint Over Stainned Walls?

These were the steps that the painter followed regarding painting over stained walls

  1. He prepped the wall first by cleaning the wall thoroughly to take out any dust, debris or grease and old paint.

  2. The painter inspected the surface to see if there were any dents, holes and imperfections that required immediate attention. He used wall putty and filled them up before proceeding to sand the wall.

  3. After this, he covered all the parts of the house that did not need any painting like the switchboards and dining area.

  4. Finally, he applied Indigo Stain Block Primer to combat the stains and applied it on them. Since the results were not visible after applying one coat of the stain blocker he applied another one. This way he was able to address the stains.

After Indigo Stain Block Primer dried up, he then proceeded to do the paint job using a roller and a brush.  He felt one coat of paint was enough. To be on the safer side he also applied a coat of emulsion so that the stains would be nicely hidden.

Thus, this is how to paint over stains on walls.
