I recently made a new drainage line in the exterior of my house using a PVC pipe. However, the colour of the PVC pipes was interfering with the colour of the exterior wall. Because of this, I decided to get them painted. Now the question arises, how to paint PVC pipe. I figured that before anything, I needed to sand the PVC Pipe to prepare a smooth surface for the paint. Here are the details for the steps that I followed next.

How Do I Paint PVC Pipe?

I decided that the easiest way to paint the PVC pipe would be to use spray paint. o prepare the pipe before painting it, I did the following:

  • I selected a sandpaper with a grit of 220 to sand the PVC pipe. You can use a sandpaper of higher grit as well..

  • The next step was to use a damp cloth to clean the surface of the Pipe.

  • After that, I had to pick a plastic-rated spray paint. Remember to shake it well before use.

  • Following that, I started spraying the pipe slowly and steadily.

  • I had to wait for 20 - 30 minutes for the paint to dry before applying the next coat.

That’s it. This is all you need to do to paint the PVC pipe. I hope you have your answer now about how do you paint PVC pipe.

Hey,

I have always liked the unique charm of the wood and that’s why I decided to paint my PVC pipe to make it look like wood. I was not sure if this was even possible, so I called my father who’s really into painting stuff. He told me that it’s possible and the process is very easy and cheap. He shared the simple process for painting PVC pipe with me. Let me pass on the info.

How to Paint PVC Pipe to Look Like Wood

Things Required
  • PVC pipe

  • Fine-grit sandpaper

  • Foam brush

  • Wood stain

  • Paper towel or Rag

  • Hot gun

  • Protection gloves

  • Sharp, thin knife/Wood file

Process:
  • First, you’ll have to sand the PVC pipe gently to ensure a smooth, matte surface. After that, use a wood file or a sharp knife to cut tiny grooves and craves. Next, sand the pipe one more time using a light hand. Now, the pipe’s surface will look like real wood.

  • Now, you have to stain the PVC pipe with wood stain. I suggest you wear protective gloves to prevent your hands from getting stained. Use a foam brush to apply a layer of stain and wipe it off with a paper towel or a clean rag. Keep staining the pipe until you get your preferred colour. Allow it to dry well.

  • It’s time to add the final touch! Hang the PVC pipe on an appropriate wooden stick in a way that you can burn the edges of the pipe using a hot gun. Bend the softened edges gently so that they look like wood’s natural shape.
