Hey, I had a raw wood table. I decided to paint a few weeks ago. So, I looked up the process regarding how to paint raw wood and did a little DIY. The result was pretty good. I began with sanding and cleaning the surface, followed by sealing the wood knots on the surface. This is a little snippet. I can share the rest of the steps with you below.

How to Paint Raw Wood for Outside?

Here is the process you can follow:

  1. Start by sanding the wood. Choose a 150-grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the wood grain. Create even pressure while sanding. Vacuum after sanding and then wipe with a tack cloth.

  2. With a brush attachment to your vacuum cleaner, clean the surface to remove dust. Then, grab a damp cloth and wipe the surface. Let the wood dry completely.

  3. Wood knots need to be sealed because they tend to bleed through the paint over the course of time. Use a sealer and let it dry.

  4. Next, apply your primer evenly with a brush, sprayer or roller. Sand lightly between each primer coat to smoothen the surface. For the best outcome, apply several thin coats of primer.

  5. It's time to paint. Stir the paint thoroughly and apply thin, even coats with a roller or brush. Paint in the grain’s direction and let every coat dry before you apply the next one. Again, sand lightly between each paint coat.

You can follow this same process to paint raw wood furniture. I hope this will help you learn how to paint raw wood cabinets.
