Recently, I repainted my bedroom, and getting that second coat of paint right made all the difference. It is because last time it was a nightmare that I painted the second coat over the first one before drying and it became so messy that I had to repaint it again. I learned how to paint second coat on walls from a few online videos before starting with my home painting project. I’ll be happy to share the steps here with you.
How to Apply Second Coat of Wall Paint?
First off all, I made sure to wait the proper amount of time before starting. My walls were painted with water-based paint, so I waited around four hours to let the first coat dry completely.
I didn’t want to rush this part because I learned that applying the second coat too soon can cause streaks and peeling.
While waiting, I wrapped my brushes and rollers in plastic wrap and popped them in the fridge to keep them from drying out.
Once it was time to start the second coat, I began from the top corner of the room, cutting in along the edges and trimming with a brush. Then, I rolled the paint on in small sections, avoiding uneven patches.
For consistency, I stirred the paint before pouring it into the tray. If I had to use multiple paint cans, I would mix them all together in a larger bucket for the same reason.
After the second coat dried, the colour looked so much richer, and the finish was beautifully smooth. I had enough patience to get the second coat right and I hope you will follow these steps to get a beautifully painted wall.
