How to paint vertical stripes on a wall?

How to Paint Vertical Stripes?

Here are the steps that I followed to paint vertical stripes on my bedroom walls.

• The first step is to paint the whole wall in a colour that you want between the stripes. For me, it was the colour White. 

• Next, I measured the width of the wall and divided the space evenly into the number of stripes needed. I divided the wall into five stripes. 

• After that, I used a pencil to extend the lines vertically on the wall. 

• Following that, painter's tape needs to be applied over the vertical lines on the walls. 

• Now, I used a putty knife to press the tape firmly on the wall to prevent paint from getting under them. 

• Finally, I used a roller or a paintbrush to paint the stripes on the wall. Followed by using a paintbrush as I was more comfortable with that. 

You can apply another coat of paint if you feel it's necessary. Remove the tape when the paint has properly dried.

Let me tell you how to paint vertical stripes on a wall:

• Painter’s tape

• Paint

• Drop cloths

• Ladder

• Paint tray

• Paint primer

• Paint roller and covers

• Pencil

• Tape measure

• Level

Decide on the look you want to create. Will the stripes be thin or wide, and will they be the same width? Do you want to go for two shades of the same colour or want to create contrast with 2 different hues?  You can get the supplies online or from the store once you have a plan.

Before you begin, prime your walls using a paint primer to ensure a smooth surface. After that, pick one colour as the base and paint the whole wall. Paint the 2nd coat if required. Allow it to dry for a minimum of 2 days.

Once the walls are dry, it is time to make the stripes. Measure the width of the wall and divide the number by the no. of stripes you wish to determine the width of each.

Mark the position of your stripes using a pencil and a measuring tape. Now, use a level as a straight edge and draw the entire stripe.

Tape off the ceiling’s edges as well as any outlets, trim, and woodwork. After that, place painter's tape on the pencil line, ensuring that the tape is on the line’s correct side so your stripes are even. Seal the edges using a debit card or press on the tape to avoid the paint from getting under the tape.

Paint the stripes on the wall using a paint roller. Paint over the tape’s edge so you have a clean line. If required, apply the second coat.

Remove the tape before the stripes get dry if you want to avoid pulling off some of the paint.
