How to paint wood like metal
First, begin by creating faint dots on small lumps of wood using the tip of your paint brush. You can also create some ridges to develop the texture of metal with the help of a full brush stroke on your wood. However, this step is completely up to you.
I would advise you to mix steel metallic paint along with plain black paint to give it the feel of blackened iron.
Next, apply brown paint over the top of the base coat while it is still wet. Make sure to do this in just some spots. Move on to blending the brown with the black paint to get a faint shade. Aim for a dark brown similar to the colour of an espresso coffee.
To add the rusting effect, you can sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon on a few regions. Pick joints for this purpose as that’ll give a more realistic effect. Make sure to do this while the paint is still wet so that the cinnamon holds on to it.
After the paint dries out, finish by coating it with a light coat of varnish preferably in a satin sheen.
