Yes, now we can reduce our DTH bill. We have the choice to lower our monthly price by just paying for the channels we subscribe to under the new rules that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will impose on DTH providers. To choose these channels and begin receiving continuous service on February 1st, you have until the end of January. I will tell you how to reduce DTH bill here in my answer.

According to TRAI's analysis of BARC data, only roughly 80% of customers watch more than 40 channels, and going over 100 is extremely uncommon. After the new regulations, we are allowed to change any of the 100 channels we already have, and if we plan correctly, we can pay less than we did before.

New regulations on DTH that we should be aware of as a smart consumer:

  • For a bundle of 100 non-HD Free-to-Air (FTA) channels, DTH service providers like Tata Sky, DTH TV, or Dish TV are only allowed to charge a maximum of Rs 130 (including GST).

  • You have the option to add a paid channel to the set, but you will be charged extra for it. A-la-carte subscription is what it's called when you subscribe to specific channels.

  • Channel distributors like Sony, Star, Zee, Viacom, and others are allowed to choose which of their channels are "paid channels" and which are free-to-air.

  • Additionally, channel bouquets based on language or genre will be offered by broadcasters.

  • The broadcaster sets the rates, which will be the MRP (maximum retail price). You may receive competitive offers below the MRP from your TV service provider (such as Tata Sky or Dish TV), but not above it. Even the most basic package, which includes 100 channels, is available for less than the MRP of Rs 130. For instance, the base packages for Tata Sky and Airtel DTH begin at Rs 99.

  • If you want to view more than 100 channels, you can select them in blocks of 25 channels for a maximum of Rs 20 each.

  • According to the TRAI, there are up to 330 pay TV channels, both HD and SD, from 40 broadcasters. There are as many as 535 private FTA channels.

  • Numerous broadcasters have introduced channel bundles with special prices. These are less expensive than buying the channels a la carte. For instance, purchasing a bundle of 10 Sony Sports channels would be less expensive than paying for each one separately on an a-la-carte basis.

  • An FTA channel cannot be combined with a paid channel in certain bouquets, and the SD version of a channel cannot be combined with the HD version. This will help the consumer understand the several channels that are available.

  • Instead of from service providers, one can purchase a set-top box from the market, but it must be technologically compatible with the service operator's system.

  • The TRAI has mandated that each DTH service provider carry a channel providing pricing information for channels, preferably channel number 999.

  • Customers will get uninterrupted service until January 31; but, if you don't switch to a new package by that date, your access to all basic FTA channels may be suspended.

This is how to reduce DTH bill and save money.
