Hello Rajanya. I realised that our energy usage had increased drastically in the past few months. To bring down the electricity bills, I checked how to reduce electricity consumption at home and found some effective ways. First, I purchased a smart thermostat, which has helped quite a bit. This is just one way, but there are several others. Let me tell you about them below.

Here are some ways through which you can reduce electricity consumption at your house:

1. Buy Energy-Efficient Appliances: Whenever you look to buy an electrical appliance, say an AC or a washing machine, check the star rating, which tells you the energy efficiency. The greater the stars, the better the energy efficiency of the appliances.

2. Focus on Running Appliances: This is more of a practice that requires attention. A lot of times we leave the AC, fans and geysers running for too long without anybody using it. So, turn them off when you leave the space.

3. Install a Smart Thermostat: Another thing you can do is install a smart thermostat. It helps reduce heating and cooling energy usage without depending on the HVAC system. You’ll see a drop in the electricity usage and bill.

So, these are some methods you can adopt. I believe you now understand how to reduce power consumption at home.

The price of electricity is increasing every day and global warming is also increasing. With all these points in mind, we must think about ways to reduce energy consumption at home. I have two kids and they always turn on the lights and fans in the house so I came up with some ideas to reduce electricity consumption. How to reduce electricity consumption at home in India?

Light colours always reflect lights in the room. So, you can paint your house with light colours such as yellow, pink, white, etc. By applying a lighter shade you don't need to worry about turning on lights during the daytime. You can use the natural sunlight during the daytime and avoid utilizing electricity. Also, lighter colours are a cost-effective option if you are thinking about painting your home because dark colours tend to be more expensive than lighter ones.

We always turn on the AC during the summer season. It is our guilty pleasure. To reduce electricity consumption I used ceiling fans instead of Air conditioners and I installed black colour curtains in my windows to block the sunlight. At the same time, I also kept money plants and snake plants in my room to keep the air in the room fresh and cool. Although my room was not as cool as the AC I did get some effective results. You can try this method too to reduce the electricity bill in the home.

LED lights save 90% of power in the home. So installing LEDs is a must if you want to reduce electricity consumption. Also LED lights do not emit UV rays that affect your eyes. So, LED lights are always a better option.
