It is a waste of money if you call someone to clean your bathtub. Using market bought chemicals or harsh acids can damage it completely hence it is better to opt for DIY bathtub refinishing and get your desired results. My bathtub looks all new though it is 5 years old but in some areas, there are severe scratches which hamper its overall look. Cleaning is an easy task but refinishing is not yet can be done easily at home only. Let me share how you can do it.

 

How to refinish a plastic bathtub?

Here are the steps that will guide you to refinish your plastic tub:

  • Clean the surface of the tub as much as possible by using soft chemicals or bathtub refinishing kit available in the market

  • Sand your bathtub with sandpaper and warm water

  • If there are minor cracks, fill them with epoxy and let it to dry for a day

  • Stick paper tape on knobs, faucets or other fixtures

  • Get the hardener that you will get in the kit and mix it following the instructions given on its package

  • Brush on the hardener on every part of the tub

  • Remove the paper tape and leave the tub for 2 days minimum

People do ask is bathtub refinishing worth it or not and I would personally say that it is definitely worth it. I have refinished my tub and everyone who saw it believed it to be a new one. If your tub is in a good condition and has no such serious issues like large cracks and more, trust me refinishing it at home is worth it.

  How long is refinishing going to last?

It totally depends on how well your bathtub is. On an average be sure that it can last upto 3 years minimum.
