How to Remove Ceramic Tile from Cement Floor?
Here is the process you can follow:
First things first. Wear safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, knee pads and a face mask.
Remove all the things from the room to clear the flooring.
Next, cover all the exposed regions to protect them from damage. Use drop cloths and similar covering material.
Seal the region if possible, to reduce dust from spreading throughout the house.
Check the existing tiles first. Tap different areas of the tile to identify weak or detached parts. Also check what kind of adhesive was used.
Use a hammer and a chisel at the corner of the tile to lift it.
Remove one tile at a time, finishing one row at a time. For big or tough regions, use an angle grinder or an electric hammer drill to make the job faster.
Once you remove all the tiles, use a manual scraper to remove all the glue and mortar residue.
For tough glue or mortar sticking to the floor, use a scraper or a grinder with a diamond disc to remove it.
Lastly, fill cracks, holes and other imperfections. Use an all-purpose drywall compound. Apply a multipurpose primer afterwards. Use 1 to 2 layers of leveling compound to finish.
