How to Remove Scratches From Marble?

For minor cracks, you can consider buffing. Sand the area using 400-600 grit sandpaper if the marble countertop has a honed surface. For high-gloss surfaces, consider using 1200 to 1500 grit sandpapers. Consider the following steps to understand how to remove scratches on marble.

Get a Sandpaper

Get an 800 grit sandpaper and attach the wet/dry sandpaper to the orbital sander. Then, wet the surface.

Sand the Area

Thoroughly sand the surface until the scratches are no longer visible. Once done, polish the surface with automotive compound until the scratches are completely gone. 

Fill Cracks

If there are visible cracks on the marble surface, a marble solution will help to fill the cracks and lighten the dark spots. 

You can use these steps to get rid of the deep scratches. You can follow the same process of sanding and polishing until the scratches disappear. 

If all these steps don’t work and your marble still has visible scratches and cracks, you might require a professional intervention.

Hello Shami! We have marble flooring at our house, which got scratched due to the movement of heavy objects last month. So, I looked up how do you remove scratches from marble at home and got a solution. I used a DIY solution and sandpaper to get rid of the scratches and the results were pleasing enough. 

How to Get a Scratch Out of Marble?

1. To start with, take a soft cloth and dip it into a solution of mild dish soap and water. 

2. Then, apply this over the scratched surface. When you do so, the cloth should be damp and not wet.

3. Take another soft cloth and damp it in warm water. Rinse the scratched surface with it. 

4. Let the surface dry completely. Then, use a soft and dry cloth and start rubbing it in a circular motion with some elbow grease over the surface.

5. Do so till you see a shine coming from the surface. 

6. If the scratches are deep, I recommend you use fine grit sandpaper or steel wool for buffing out the scratches. Use the wool in a stable and firm motion.

7. Sand the surface and wipe away any dust along the surface. 

8. Apply a bit of varnish or sealant at the end.

If it is very deep, you can use 800-grit sandpaper and sand tha area. You will need to polish the area with an automotive compound until the scratches disappear.
